Why Cocokind is my Favorite Skincare Brand

Why Cocokind is my Favorite Skincare Brand

Cocokind is my all-time favorite skincare brand. If you checked out my post on what to do when you make poor skincare decisions, you will note that Cocokind products are a must in my skincare routine.

I discovered the brand on IG and after reading reviews I started with one of their best sellers, the golden elixir. This product literally changed my life. My skin loves the ingredients and consistency. It’s extremely lightweight and the perfect oil for day or night skincare.

Next, I decided to order the oil to milk cleanser and the rose water. I then added the mymatcha stick, texture smoothing cream, and the watermelon hemp oil to my collection.

I love the fact that Cocokind is a clean beauty brand. All of their products are vegan (with the exception of their products with beeswax). Additionally, they contain organic ingredients that are great for my sensitive skin. A few of my favorite products are:

Oil to Milk Cleanser

Rosewater Toner

Texture Smoothing Cream

Matcha Moisture Stick

I also love the fact that Cocokind promotes sustainability. Their website shows you how to recycle each product and they even give you ideas on how to reuse the bottle. For instance, they encourage customers to re-use the rosewater sprayer for your plants. I am totally going to use that suggestion!

Most importantly, Cocokind is a huge supporter of the Black Lives Matter Movement. In June, they donated all of their proceeds to various organizations for an entire week. Ultimately they donated over $50,000 to ACLU, NAACP, BLM, Loveland Foundation, and more. This is major, seeing as though Cocokind is a small company fighting to keep their sales up during this pandemic.

I can’t get enough of this amazing brand. They recently launched an SPF. If you have been following my blogger journey, y’all know sunscreen is a must for me. Cocokind SPF will be my next skincare purchase!

What to do when you make poor skincare decisions

What to do when you make poor skincare decisions

Self-care Sunday came early. I have really been slipping on my skincare. I actually have a confession. There were a few nights this week where I fell asleep without doing my full skincare routine. I couldn’t help it! Actually I could, but I was tired y’all!

Normally, I would properly cleanse, tone, and moisturize. Yet, this week my routine turned into a quick rinse. I actually had a few bumps show up today (sigh). I was mad at myself because I know I didn’t take the proper steps to care for my skin.

Today, I am going to give myself a full facial. Below you can find my normal skincare routine and the steps that I follow when I am experiencing a breakout:

On a normal day I would use the following products:

  1. Cleanse – Cocokind oil to milk cleanser
  2. Tone- Cocokind Rosewater
  3. Treat- Skin Nutritions Retinol or Cocokind Golden Elixir Serum
  4. Moisturize- Cocokind Texture smoothing cream, Cetaphil hydrating eye gel cream, Cocokind Mymatcha all-over moisture stick on my lips

Since I haven’t been following my normal routine as I should, I am going to add a few extra steps. Here are the products I am planning to use today:

  1. Double Cleanse – Oil cleanse with Cocokind oil to milk cleanser & treatment cleanse with ponds pure detox facial foam
  2. Exfoliate- Dermasil facial scrub with Vitamin E
  3. Tone- Cocokind Rosewater
  4. Mask- Loreal pure clay mask
  5. Tone- Cocokind Rosewater
  6. Treat- Versed Overnight facial peel
  7. Moisturize- Cocokind Mymatcha all-over moisture stick on my lips

I can tell my skin needs a little extra TLC, judging by the random breakouts and the rough texture. I hope this brings it back to normal by the weekend.

Topicals skincare making an impact

Topicals skincare making an impact

I attended the New Nostalgia virtual beauty conference hosted by Olamide Olowe, co-founder of Topicals a few months ago. During the conference, Olamide shared her skincare experience and dissatisfaction with certain products that inspired her to create a brand for women like herself.

Topicals is a skincare brand that celebrates our imperfections. Their formula specifically focuses on women who have problems with eczema and hyperpigmentation. As someone who battled with both, I knew I wanted to give the products a try.

Women with skin conditions are often left out of the conversation when it comes to beauty and skincare. I love how the brand brings attention to women who are confident in their skin no matter what.

After the conference, Olamide offered free samples to all attendees. I got a chance to try the “Like Butter” overnight mask for eczema-prone skin and “Faded” serum for hyperpigmentation. I love both products. I will be ordering full-sized containers when they go live!

Although the launch date has been delayed due to COVID-19, they have continued to show up for their community. In April, Topicals created a product called Washed Up, a hand sanitizer for itchy, inflamed skin.

In May, Topicals donated $6500 to Sad Girls Club in New York. They also partnered with Therapy for Black Girls to offer free group memberships. Topicals is more than a skincare brand. They help women find community, connection, and skincare advice.

I follow both their Instagram and Twitter and I have learned so much about skincare ingredients. Their posts have been extremely informative and I look forward to their official launch. To stay up to date on Topicals, sign up for their mailing list at mytopicals.com and follow them on social media @mytopicals. Trust me you don’t want to miss this!

Do Olly vitamins live up to the hype?

Do Olly vitamins live up to the hype?

I lived in California for nearly two years, so keeping my skin and hair moisturized was the ultimate challenge. No matter how much moisturizer I used, I always found myself needing more by the end of the day. I was tired of my skin looking so dull and my curls feeling like Cheetos.

I decided to try something new. I heard a lot of influencers talk about Olly vitamins. I was particularly interested in the vitamins for hydrated youthful skin. The vitamins contain hyaluronic acid which is great for hydration. An esthetician I follow on IG always says hyaluronic acid is basically water for the skin.

September of 2019, I finally decided to order a bottle of the Olly Glowing Skin vitamin gummies from Target. I took them every night after dinner and I noticed a difference immediately. My skin looked so much brighter and my scalp didn’t feel as dry. I was sold! I have been taking these vitamins every day for the past 9 months.

Something else I love about the vitamins is that you don’t need water.  You take two a day and you eat them like fruit snacks. I personally decided to increase my water intake along with these vitamins because I know I need it. I try my best to drink nearly a gallon of water a day. Let’s just say my hair, skin, and nails are thanking me!

Ultimately, hydrated hair and skin start from within! I 100% recommend you give the Olly vitamins a try. If you do, let me know what you think!

Why sunscreen is important in skin care

Why sunscreen is important in skin care

If you scroll through my Instagram, the most popular questions and comments are usually focused on skin. Now let me be honest… my skin has not always been so clear.

Throughout my life I have struggled with acne and eczema. I was always so self conscious.

Within the last few years, I figured out my biggest skincare mistake. I wasn’t using SPF on my face or my body. I was mind blown. I didn’t know everyone needed to wear sunscreen every day. I originally thought I only needed it at the beach.

I did my research and I found a few sunscreen options for sensitive skin.   The first one was Black Girl Sunscreen. I was originally using this one on my face and body.

After a year of solely using Black Girl Sunscreen, I discovered Supergoop. It was more lightweight and perfect for my face. I wore Supergoop to work everyday with no foundation and noticed that my skin improved immediately.

My skin was super moisturized and my dark spots were starting to lighten. I was sold. I now use Supergoop on my face and Black Girl Sunscreen on my body.

When I wear makeup, I mix the Supergoop sunscreen with my foundation to give me a nice smooth finish. I’m wearing this exact mixture in most of my photos on IG.

If you haven’t realized by now, sunscreen is my #1 tip for flawless skin.  It helps you stay moisturized. It protects you from skin damage and lightens your dark spots. It’s a game changer!
